The Wine Circle

Life is just too short to drink mediocre wine! The Wine Circle is one of the most active and convivial interest groups, and is perfect for those who enjoy the delights of drinking good wine. The aim of the Wine Circle is to expand members’ knowledge of wine and winemaking while enjoying good food and good company at regular tasting dinners and events.

The group holds about six or seven tasting events every year, each with a different theme. This may cover a distinct wine-producing area such as North America, the Rhone Valley or northern Italy. The usual format for these events involves a carefully chosen dinner menu accompanied by a sparkling wine as an aperitif, two different white wines with the starter, two different red wines with the main course and a dessert wine to finish. The wines are often introduced by the wine merchant supplying them, therefore introducing members to specialist wine merchants they might not previously have been aware of.

The Wine Circle also arranges superb wine tours – usually two every year, each lasting about a week – to wineries abroad. Previously there were very successful tours of the Languedoc/Roussillon in southern France and the Rioja and Ribera del Douro areas of northern Spain.
