The Real Ale Appreciation Society
Enjoy real ale in good company
The Real Ale Appreciation Society (RAAS) was initiated in early 2011 with the prime objectives of:
- Bringing together members who enjoy traditional beers
- Introducing real ales to the Club bar
- Arranging monthly meetings and visits to places of interest
Open to both ladies and gentlemen, RAAS is an easy-going and sociable group of members who enjoy real ale and good company. The society meets monthly over dinner – either at the Club or at an outside venue – where a variety of real ales are enjoyed including new and old favourites. Twelve monthly meetings are arranged annually: six at the Club, including the annual BBQ (August) and Christmas Dinner (December); and six at outside venues, including regular visits to the Maltsters (Rotherfield Greys), Bird In Hand (Henley) and many others.
Additional activities are arranged, including brewery trips (such as Rebellion, Loddon, Fuller’s, Hook Norton), heritage pub walking tours in London, and CAMRA events (such as Ascot Racing Festival) and beer festivals (Reading, London).
The Society provides information about real ales and events, and supports existing and new local brewers, many of whom attend monthly meetings at the Club. Other attractions include quizzes, bingo and entertainment.
