Embrace your love of literature

The Book Group is for members with a love of all things literary. Some members join one of the seven Reading Groups while others join as social members and have no requirement to read anything other than the Social Diary!

The Reading Groups are limited to 12 members each (plus host) and meet once a month at Phyllis Court to discuss the same book from the Reading List. Two of the Reading Groups meet in the evening, so are suited to working members. 

Reading Lists are issued annually and the books are all available both in paperback and on kindle. They are chosen by member vote from suggestions made by fellow members. The afternoon Reading Groups are usually followed by tea in the Members’ Bar and the evening Reading Groups by supper in the Orangery.

The Social Diary includes an event most months, open to all Book Group members, both reading and social. Typical events are the very popular Workshop Days, Midsummer Barbecue, Film Night and Supper, Literary Dinners with guest speaker,  Literary Walks, AGM Dinner and Quiz and black tie Christmas Dinner.

Other benefits of membership are a 10% discount at the Bell Bookshop on Reading List books, Good Reads (books recommended by other Members) and information about items of literary interest.
